New Oncology Program in Kashmir Despite Conflict in the Region

Our new program in Kashmir will bring medical expertise to Sadar Latif Khan Memorial Cancer Hospital in Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir. Rawalakot is a city in the autonomous region of Kashmir which has been plagued with conflict because India and Pakistan both claim ownership of this territory.

As reported by the Express Tribune, the telehealth program makes this hospital “the first cancer hospital with modern medical facilities established by the private sector” in Kashmir and Jammu.  The telehealth device arrived onsite in late 2019, and the hospital will be hiring two new local physicians to see patients.

Through our program, the Cancer Hospital will expand healthcare to this community by giving onsite doctors access to cancer experts and specialists across the world.

Dr. Naeem Latif was born in Kashmir and now is a practicing oncologist at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center. He started the Safar Latif Khan Memorial Cancer Hospital in memory of his late father. Now we are recruiting a group of Kashmiri doctors in the United States to support the hospital through our program. It provides a great opportunity for the Kashmiri population living in the United States to follow in Dr. Latif’s footsteps in giving back to their home country.

The President of Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan, was present for the grand opening of the Cancer Hospital and applauded Latif’s efforts and service to the people of Kashmir (The Express Tribune).

We have partnered with Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) to deliver the telehealth device to the hospital in Kashmir. HHRD is a humanitarian organization based in the US whose mission is to serve humanity by integrating resources for people in need (Helping Hand). We are grateful for their partnership and believe that our impact is stronger when we combine forces with other NGO’s that share our mission of advancing global healthcare.
